Describe your music for unfamiliar listeners.

I’d say it sounds like amateur singer-songwriter stuff, maybe a little folky at times, but ultimately pretty stripped back most of the time

How and when did you get into music?

I’ve always loved singing since I was a little kid, I’d run around in the backyard and make songs up, and I wanted to be like Michael Jackson. I started playing guitar a couple years ago because of my brother. He had taught himself how to play and I enjoyed listening to him playing around the house, so I bought a cheap guitar and gave it a try and I loved it. Honestly that’s when I really started to delve deeper into music and I started doing nothing but listening and learning about genres and artists and albums and recording, it’s become quite the obsession.

Creative Process?

My creative process is about searching and searching until something sparks motivation and being able to get the idea recorded, very poorly probably, just so I can listen and be able to drill it into my brain because otherwise i’ll forget. I pretty much exclusively write on guitar so once it becomes something repeatable and I can play it well then I just build upon it, and by that I just mean stretching the idea out into a full song in terms of length and structure. That’s when I start double tracking, adding more instruments, and I usually save the vocals and lyrics for last.My creative process is spontaneous. I can’t write or record songs unless i’m in the mood too, but a lot of my songs have been written in less than hour.

Where do you find inspiration?

It seems to always come from artists that I love, particularly what they are really good at that I wish I was good at. For example right now I’m really into elliott smith so I’ve become increasingly interested in chord progressions, and double tracking and all things elliott smith adjacent. Before it might’ve been Adrianne Lenker with her fingerpicking, or Nick Drake and his crazy tunings, or Linda Perhacs and the atmosphere of her songs, just anything my brain latches onto and won’t let me stop thinking about. That being said, eventually I hope to find more inspiration in things outside of other people because I don’t want to become derivative but I’m still figuring myself out as an artist so I’ll cut myself some slack for now.

What song/project should unfamiliar listeners begin with?

I think the best place to start would be Rain… or Cool As, I think those songs are my favourites. Although I am very proud of Haunts You. I think the first two I mentioned are more in line with the direction I’m going, for now at least. I’ll definitely want to comeback to the more psych, eery feelings of haunts you in the future though.

Any new projects soon? Anything you'd like to promote

I’m working on another EP at the moment, i’ve got a couple songs pretty much done now but still hacking away at a few more. I just appreciate anyone who lends an ear to what I do, and hopefully people are seeing potential in me cause I’m optimistic about my music, maybe naively so but optimistic nonetheless.

What music have you been listening to recently?

I’ve been really loving the new Laura Marling record, I think it’s beautiful, and of course the Magdalena Bay album is insane, lots of Figure 8 by Elliott Smith and one last artist I’ve come to really love in the past month or so is this guy .Michael. he makes such great great songs he’s got an album called The Puddle that came out this year and it’s fantastic.
